Nigeria Government Pledges $350m To ECOWAS (Read Full Story)

The Federal Government had contributed the sum of $350 million to the ECOWAS Security Fund, $80 million has been pladged on the counter-insurgency campaign accross the North-East.

The Nigeria government made the pladge towards the $1 billion ECOWAS Regional Security Fund which was set up in 2019, while the total amouth contributed to the fund could not be confirmed yet.Nigeria Government

President Nana Akufo-Addo (Ghana President) who’s also the the chairman of ECOWAS Authority revealed this at the 58 ordinary session of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of States and Government which was held vitually on Saturday 23, January 2021.

President Nana Akufo-Addo in his word, disclosed that the Nigeria Government had pledged to contribute $100 million as of the first instant in 2020, in which $20 million would go to the regional fund and $80 will be spend to tackle terrorism in the North-East of Nigeria.

He noted that the $1 billion  was raised in support of the 2020 – 2024 Anti – Terrorism Action plan which has been the highest priority of the ECOWAS Group. The President further revealed that ECOWAS has been waiting for confirmation to make all the neccessary transfer.
