Manchester United have moved to the next round of the FA cup after their 2-0 defeat to Manchester City earlier this week.
Manchester United went against Watford to redeem their bad week and they won the match with a 1-0 scoreline.
Ole Gunnan’s men were quick to strike, as they took the lead from the 5th minute, when captain of the night, Scott McTominay blazed in a header, off-the back post from a Telles corner to make it 1-0.
McTominay has been impressive for Manchester United this season, opening the scoresheet for the glorious thumping against Leeds United, a while back.
The scoreline was almost doubled in the 20th minute when Bailly strong header went wide from an excellent Telles corner, as Watford defence lagged badly.
Watford began to play good football and threaten in the middle of the second half when Gray could not connect with a cross, after a brilliant team play.
In the 32nd minute, Watford were denied a penalty even after appealing for a hand ball (the ball hit Eric Bailly’s arm in the box) After consulting the VAR, the hand ball was ruled accidental and Watford were not awarded what they wanted.
United tried to widen the scoreline early in the second half when James had a good run and attempted a shot which was easily saved by Watford’s goalkeeper. Watford tried to level the gane in the 55th minute, but were frustrated as Pedro headed the ball over the post in a vulnerable United defense.
After ninety munutes, the game ended 1-0 in favour of Ole Gunnan’s men. United had a dominant 70% of ball possession while Watford had just 30. It’s unfortunate that the match could not produce more goals.
Meanwhile, Odion Ighalo was not part of the match, after raising hopes that it would be his last match for United, following his move away from the club. Ighalo has endured playing second choice for United this season and had only gotten few starts. We hope he thrives in his next club.
