Transfer Update: Arsenal to battle Tottenham for Napoli’s forward




As every premier league club is looking to add-up their squad, Arsenal and Tottenham are not left behind, as both teams are currently eying move for Napoli’s experience foward, Dries Mertens. Sources say that both top teams might go head to head for the forward.

The long term serving 33-year-old signed a new contract with the Serie A giants last June, and he has been a regular during the 2020-21 season, playing 30 games in all competitions, founding back of the net nine times and provided eight assists in the process.

However, according to Voetbal 24, the Serie A top club is looking to accept a move for the Belgian forward, that is, a tick off their wager.

The report claims that North London giants the Spurs and the Gunners are both interested in recruiting the Belgium international to the Premier League in the upcoming transfer market.

Mertens has scored eight goals and provided seven assists in 21 Serie A appearances this term, however, he also struggled with an ankle problem during phases of the season.

The Belgian attacker has managed to find back of the net 134 times and provided 86 assists in 352 appearances for Napoli since joining the top team from Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven back in 2013.

Tottenham and Arsenal are also both planning move for Norwich City right-back Max Aarons, as they both want that the players can offer.
